I love Sunday morning worship. Worshipping Jesus through song has been one of my favorites since I was a little girl. Having a place for people to gather under one roof to lift the name of Jesus really high is truly an honor to see and be a part of, even more so as a pastor's wife. I get to witness newcomers, regulars, unsaved, saved, anyone and everyone come through the church door and experience Jesus through song.
We have had the honor at our church to have many musicians, singers, and worship leaders lead our people to the throne. Being a church in Nashville, music runs through our people's blood. However, over the years I have come to realize there is a huge difference in talented musicians, and gifted musicians. People who are talented have the ability to sing, and lead us in song really well. However, those who are gifted can take us from a living room, or a sanctuary to the foot of Jesus. And there is no better place in worship than to be at the foot of our Saviour.
When it comes to leading people through song from stage, the people (congregation) will never go further than the worship leader is leading them. If the leader is leading them on a scale from 0-10 and is at a 6, the people will not go beyond what he is leading them. If karaoke is what the worship team is producing, than the result will be a congregation singing corporate karaoke. But, if a worship team is leading to the throne room, than the congregation can't help but follow them there.
Talent will only ever get you so far. There are many talented people on this earth not using their talents to glorify Jesus. And, there are many gifted people, that God has blessed them with the gift to give Jesus back to the people. Whether that be through song, pastoring, shepherding, writing, speaking, and so on.
How is your church worship? Is the leader leading them to Jesus, or is he only getting the people to a certain point? Are you as the pastor's wife or pastor speaking truth, praying with, and encouraging the worship team every Sunday morning to let go of their past week and take people to Jesus?
