Pastoring a church and raising children can be a challenge. We somehow master the art of shepherding and loving on the people God has brought into our lives. But, when it comes to our kiddos, we run confused and scared what to do. After all, children are little monsters wrapped in tiny bodies, that are armed and ready to take over the day.
We seek God, read His word and cover our ministries in prayer. Children? We read tons of parenting books, shy away from overly parenting in Target in fear of judgement, and follow other parents' lead on parenting. Seriously, no other parent is going through this. But somehow, we believe since they don't have our children they know how to parent the best way. So maybe they do? A parent who knows best how to parent and love their children well, what an inspiration.
That parent, she must cover her house in prayer everyday. She definitely has memorized all scripture that applies to parenting and loving ones children. She never compares her children, or herself to others. She is a living example of the fruit of the spirit. She shepherds her children before she shepherds others. Her household is her number one ministry. She serves her children with such grace, humility. and love. She doesn't spoil them, but instills in them the character of Christ. She loves them, and breathes light into them.
That parent, she is parenting well. Pastors' wives, no one ever promised leading a church would be easy. Neither did they promise being a mom would be easy. Even if you are the perfect parent I mentioned above, there will be hard days. Children don't yet understand, because with age comes wisdom. It is perfectly normal they don't understand life. Love them where their at. Love your four year old son, like he is four. Don't expect a 35yr old in him. Unconditionally love him for who God has created him to be and is continuing to shape him to be.
Give yourself, and your children lots of grace. Stop seeking unreliable resources. Remember who you are, who your children are, and accept the life God has given you. Love your children the way God desires you to. If you want to have this parent thing mastered, then memorize scripture targeted towards children, your character, and live it out. As a parent, you will be their biggest and most important example of who Christ is.
