Pastors' and pastors' wives be careful what you're chasing after. Is it Jesus, or is it ministry? When you live and breathe full time ministry, it is easy to get things out of whack. Is most of your time spent furthering the ministry God has you in? Are you constantly seeking what is next in ministry for you and the church? Or are you seeking Christ?
Ministry will never sustain you. You won't take ministry to heaven, and believe it or not some of the ministries you are a part of now are only for a season. Did that sting a little? If so, I would question what you are holding close to your heart. Only Jesus will sustain you, and only Jesus will sustain your ministry.
While spending time in ministry is great. All the baptisms, seeing people saved, meetings, planning, dreaming, and everything pastoring entails is all wonderful. After all, it is the greatest job on earth. Jesus never intended for you to wrap your identity in it, and make it an idol. You can do all you desire to build God's church. But at the end of the day, God is who build's His church, and He is who sustains it.
When everything is stripped from you, ministry is gone, pastoring is gone, everything you know. Who are you? Are you a man/woman that made Jesus your everything. Or are you a man/woman who made ministry your identity, and when everything is gone, you're left empty and broken.
What are you chasing after?
