Days come and go, as do seasons. Most of the time, based on feeling or circumstance we allow our moods to rule the day. For pastors' wives, the enemy sometimes uses Sundays, life group nights, church events, and any other day church related to rough us up, and knock us down. Maybe a congregation member said something hurtful, or we are in a tiff with our husband, or maybe we are a little bitter towards an unreliable volunteer. What ever it may be, we usually enable it to lord over us, and hold tight to it permitting it to burden us.
We forget we have a choice. The choice to choose burden or joy. I know you say "it's not that easy." Actually it is, you just don't believe it. If we clothe ourselves in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control then we can't help but choose joy. Do you know what self control is? It is the ability to control oneself, particularly ones emotions. We have to learn to control our hearts and minds and align them with the Word. We love to blame other people for how we feel, and for ruining our day. But a wise person once told me, no one chooses how you feel, nor do you choose how someone else feels.
For so long we give our emotions the power to rule over us. When we give emotion power, then what others do or say will burden us and hinder who we are. The bible says, the tongue has the power to bring life and death. When people say hurtful things, they cut deep and can bring death. But we also have the power to not let our emotions rule us, by having self control and choosing joy rather than death. What people say always needs to be aligned with what God says. The enemy is out to steal, kill, and destroy. Are you bringing life to others with the words you say? Are you choosing life and joy, when death is handed to you?
