Encouraging people is a part of leading people. People need the truth called out of them. So often we forget who we are, and who God created us to be. Like perfume, when you put it on in the morning you smell it temporarily. However, after minutes you forget you smell good. It doesn't mean the smell is gone, only that your body grew accustomed to the smell. Hours later, a friend coworker, stranger will remind you by telling you how wonderful you smell.
Matthew 16:18 Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means 'rock'), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.
Peter was the same disciple that denied Jesus 3x. Did it make Him less of a rock? Did Jesus call out and encourage Him, forgetting Peter would sin? No, Jesus remembered Peter would deny Him. However, Jesus knew the power in His encouraging words. The Bible says our words have the power of life and death. Words can change people, and shape their future with Christ.
People need to see and hear how Christ sees them. God can use you to encourage and call out truths in other people. It only takes the power of Jesus in your words to ignite a flame and bring hope, life, and purpose to people. I have made a habit of this everyday with my children. My boys are eighteen months apart. I love to tell them in the midst of happy smiling faces, and in the midst of their fighting "You are a team. You are for each other. You are best friends. You are together." I am not lying when I speak this out over them. It is true, but they sometimes forget.
The enemy loves to confuse us. 1 Corinthians 14 says, God is not a God of disorder or confusion. When we forget who we are and who God created us to be, I don't think it is because God designed us as forgetful creatures. I think it is the enemy using the mad chaos of our lives to confuse us and make us accustomed to the "smell" of us, that we forget what the smell is. People, including us need encouragement. We need truths reminded to us daily.
Pastors' wives, you are strong women. Your role is huge to your household, and to he kingdom of God. God knew how much your husband needs you with leading a church, which is why He chose you. You are beautiful. Sometimes you will make mistakes, or maybe a lot of times. But like Peter, He was still a rock, and so are you. Embrace you. Remember who you are.
Now lead in encouragement, and call out truths in people in your life, and in the ministry to which God has placed you.
