Pastor and Pastor's Wife protect Your Day. Your Day, is the one day a week you disconnect with your family to spend together. No church, no ministry, and no work. My favorite day of the week to do this, is on Monday. It is the day after Sunday, so sermon isn't fresh on the mind, and all the to dos have been done. It was the perfect day for our family.
Unfortunately, as good as we were about having our day, we were never good at shutting off. We always talked ministry, had social media on, and kept our phones around to keep in touch with other church staff members. What we didn't realize is, we had to fight for Mondays. You know what it is like to fight every morning to keep your mind from getting bombarded with the day, and spend it with Jesus. It is the same for Your Day. The enemy sets up thousands of distractions, and before you know it, you never rested and poured into each other and your kids.
We need rest. We need family day. We need it more than we realize. Jesus knew the importance of getting away and resting. We must start practicing it. It will be hard to leave the phones at home, rewire our brains to not think about ministry that day, and not work. But practice makes perfect. We have to start practicing, like we practice an instrument. Practice getting better and better at it, so you fully grasp what it means to rest.
Set up boundaries to help you. Let staff members know the day your family rests, and explain the importance of it. Leave one in charge of handling things that need to get done, and answering your phone calls and messages. Leave phones off that day, and disconnect from social media. Spend the entire day loving each other well, doing activities that fill your tank, and resting in Jesus.
Protect Your Day.
Fight for it, practice it, and set up boundaries for it!
