Over the past five years, one thing I have learned about church planting is this life is all about people. One of the common church planter, pastor phrases in the beginning days of church planting was, "Don't let us get caught up in a service, or the coolest worship band. But let us be about one thing, Jesus."
We were all about Jesus, and we ended up centering our services around him. But for the first few years we hadn't bought into the idea of, "its all about people." We believed in pointing people to Jesus. And we focused on directing lives to following Jesus and getting them to buy into the mission of being "a movement of love." However, we didn't take people much further. We didn't realize people needed more than a direction to walk in, and a mission to buy into. People needed someone to walk along side them through their journey.
You could call us traffic directors. We pointed people the direction to go, but after that we left people alone to walk along their journey towards Jesus. What people needed was direction, AND community in their walk to Christ.
Being a pastor and pastor's wife is about leading, and shepherding too. Shepherds were never called to direct and then abandon their sheep.
Walk with your sheep.
