Sometimes I allow my frustrations get the best of me and my kids end up hearing it through a raised voice. In other words, yes I sometimes struggle with yelling. No I don't yell mean things at my kids, so don't call the cops on me. But sometimes yelling, "stop hurting your brother," is much easier than saying it nicely. So I think.
A few months ago at my CBS group here in Nashville, our class teacher asked what people thought about generational curses. In years past, I would have been the shy girl who would have let someone else answer. But these days, I burst forth with my thoughts and so I decided to speak up about this particular question.
I believe in generational curses, I believe they are real. If your father struggled with alcoholism, it is likely you might too. If your parents' struggled with anger, or yelling it is likely you will too. Some of us may have things passed down to us we don't even realize from great, great grand parents we have never met.
What most of us get caught up on, is the idea that we can't help who we are because of the generational curse. Yes, that is both correct and incorrect. In it of our flesh we can't fix the generational curses. They are real, and keep on and on in cycles with every generation. However, good news. Christ came. He broke generational curses. He said to renew your mind, and heart and put on your new self.
As much as we may not like some of the characteristics that have been passed down to us, we have a choice. Am I going to walk in generational curse, or am I going to die to myself and put on Christ and the full armor of God that I may break generational curses of future generations, so that my kids do not walk in curses but in blessings I have stored up for them.
We as parents have to put on Christ, break those habits and start storing up blessings for our future generations. We need to pick up our arrows and shoot them all the days of our life towards Christ, that our kids can pick them up when we're gone, and shoot them farther towards Christ for their kids.
As a pastor's wife and mother I want to take advantage of the role God had given me to have Him break curses, and with all my ability in Him to store up as many blessings as I can for my kids and their kids.
