You can count on disappointment. We live in a fallen world, and with everything there comes a time when we will be disappointed. With being a pastor's wife, disappointment has come in my life that I never expected to come.
Romans 8:28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
In life and in certain situations that affect us, we often walk around with binoculars on. You know what its like wearing binoculars. You can only see what is in front of you, and what you are looking at is the only thing you are focusing on.
When disappointment comes, we often focus entirely on it. We no longer see the big picture, nor care about what is going on around us, we only care that disappointment is ahead. However, God is asking us to remove our binoculars, and trust him. Take them off, because he sees the big picture. He knows your past, present and future. He is not bound by time and he knows the end of the story. What seems like disappointment to you, may just be teaching you or growing you for whats next. Or maybe through disappointment he is saving you from making a wrong decision. Romans says, he uses all things to work together for the good.
One of my favorite prayers to pray with people in our church who are looking for direction in their lives is, "let doors be open that need to be opened, and close doors that need to be closed." This prayer allows us not to set our heart on our own desires and expectations, but it allows us to align our desires with His will, and not get disappointed when something comes unexpected.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
When it comes to disappointment, God has never ceased in amazing me! He can turn disappointment into joy. Wherever you are allow him to have your disappointment. Say, "Jesus it is yours." Don't forget disappointment will come, but it is the way you choose to see it that will ultimately affect who you are.
Take off your binoculars and give it to Jesus.
