1 Peter 5:2-4
Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly—not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God. Don’t lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your own good example. And when the Great Shepherd appears, you will receive a crown of never-ending glory and honor.
What is a shepherd?
A person who protects, guides, and watches over a person, or group of people.
What does a shepherd do?
As pastors' wives we must rescue. Like sheep, people are lost and they need to be rescued and saved by Jesus. Our responsibility is to point them to the cross, and give them to Jesus.
We must feed the sheep. Our husbands' speak biblical truths over people on Sunday mornings, however there is more feed to be fed to the sheep. We as pastors' wives need to be nourishing women in our church with Jesus, and praying and speaking God's truth into them weekly, and some daily.
Pastors' and pastors' wives are called to be leaders of the flock. Jesus was the perfect example of this. He didn't Lord over his sheep, he lead by serving them. He also didn't rear them into place, he lead by walking ahead of them. He lead by having a servant's heart.
We must comfort. 1 Thessalonians 5:14 says, brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be patient with everyone. Every sheep is different, and needs different tending to. We must be comforters to those who need comforting.
