"Lord, as I go into church planting and leading this church, please guard me, my husband, and our team from the enemy's sneaky schemes to pin us against one another."
Before my husband and I planted a church, I so wish I would have been warned. I wish some pastors and pastors' wives would have told my husband and I, and encouraged us to be aware and recognize what the enemy would try to do. You see, when you start a church, your heart is exposed and raw to the Lord's leading. Everything is a dream and possibility. With that, everyone else is dreaming and throwing out crazy fun ideas too. You are a team, and everyone wants to be a part.
But before you know it, the newness will start to wear off, and personalities will start rising and showing. The joy of dreaming, and doing things together all the time can become more of a burden. Terrible ideas could be voiced, too strong of personalities could clash, words could be taken the wrong way, and so on. We start seeing "someone" as the problem, rather than recognizing what the enemy is trying to do.
Disunity is trying to breed. I wish a pastor's wife would have warned me. To have been told ahead of time that certain people aren't the problem, that the enemy hates unity and is out to bring disunity among the church. This would have made me aware and saved me and others from much hurt. You see, unity together is what we had in the beginning. Dreams were being had, hearts were unified, praying together, seeking God together, and a church had begun. But the enemy saw and he hated. His purpose was to destroy the unity in order to hinder all that God had planned for the church.
Unfortunately, because I hadn't been informed. I never saw it for what it was. Disunity bred, and bitterness started to take root in my heart. Pastor's wife, if there is an issue in the church, heed my advice. The issue you see isn't a person. Ephesians 6:12 says, For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Recognize what is happening, and end it fast. Continuously pray for protection and unity among you, your husband, your family, and the church.
